Date: Mon, 19 Apr 1999 09:38:54 -0500 (CDT) From: Jan Barnes To: Monkees Support Group Cc: Monkee Support Group Subject: No longer a Monkee virgin 8-) Morning all! I saw Davy! I saw Davy! in Gulfport, with LauraSis, her mom and friend Ginger. I'm sending this to both lists to save time. Hope y'all don't mind 8-) The fun began when we spotted a billboard on I-10 with Davy's face smiling down at us. Got to Gulport, checked in the hotel, then off to the mall, where we'd heard rumors on Monkee stuff at Spencer's. Nope--sent back. But we did find a puzzle store... Laura & I bought a Beatle puzzle, and asked the guy if he had any Monkee ones. He ordered them on the spot for us. We're gonna go back to pick them up next weekend. Then to the Grand Casino to check out where we were supposed to be next day. Laura spotted the poster for the show. Great big pic of current Davy, + 3 smaller ones of him with the guys. Very nice. We had a hard time with that poster. Laura wanted it. over the course of the next 2 days, 5 people told us we could have it after the show (a guard even showed us how to get it out). 3 other people told us definitely no. Finally met a guy just before the show who was able to save one copy for us. Anyway, next morning Laura & Ginger are at the theater for 6:30 am -- the tickets were going to be given out at 6pm for the 8:00 show. I joined them about 11:30. We spent the day hogging our place in line (1st, of course), talking, telling people that tickets wouldn't be available till 6, and meeting people. By the time I joined them, half the casino workers knew about us and stopped by all day either giving reports or hearing them. One fellow we met was a dead ringer for Danny Bonaduce!. We had a bit of fun at his expense and made him pose for pictures; he was really nice and took it all in stride. Laura later got an autograph for him. The line started forming slowly behind us around 3:30/4:00. I went to dinner with Laura's mom around 6, and the line stretched the length of the building! There was a tense half hour when the power in our area went out--right at 6:00 -- and tickets couldn't be handed out. (no computers, y'see) At any rate, we got front row seats, Laura & Ginger stayed in line to get tickets for the 2nd show at 10:00, again front row seats. THe moment Davy walked out on stage, I got this big stupid grin on my face that didn't leave till he left the stage at the end of the 2nd show. The man puts on a great show. I couldn't tell you which songs he sang when or at which show or in what order or even all the songs he did--I was just too much in awe of the whole thing. He did Valleri, Papa Gene's Blues(!) A *great* Stepping Stone, Daydream Believer (during which he had the audience sing along) I'm a believer, Girl (complete with Brady Bunch theme, Somebody Slap me, Is you Is Or Is you Ain't my Baby, Let me Entertain you, his new one--(why am I suddenly going blank on the title? Anyone?) and I'm sure more that are hidden in the dark recesses of my brain. Each show was about an hour 10 minutes. Finished up by 11:30. Then lined up for autographs. I've only done one or two autograph lines in my life, but I'm sure this one was handled quite badly. Pushing, shoving, crowding, confusion--My head was splitting by the time I finally got to him and shoved a 4X6 Laura had taken at a previous concert at him, which he signed, then obligly posed for a photo with me. I didn't even get a chance to say thank you before the blankity blank behind me shoved me out of the way. (grrr) All in all a *wonderful* evening (weekend). Ok. I admit it...I'm a temporary DavyGirl, but my heart still belongs to *Peter* 8-) Can you say "happy camper"? 8-) Peace! Jan --My penguin was not Peter Tork
